The Purple Ribbon Campaign was developed in response to the Ecole Polytechnique Massacre, where 14 women were killed on December 6, 1989. It is part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, from Nov 25th to Dec 10th each year. Wear a purple ribbon to show your support for ending gender-based violence. McConnell Library, Sydney Friday, December 8th, 6:30-8:30pm Join acclaimed writers and performers Ken Chisholm, Todd Pettigrew, Sherry Ramsey and James FW Thompson for an evening of original spooky stories inspired by master Canadian storyteller Robertson Davies. Come have yourself a scary little Christmas! Refreshments and festive fun await. This is a special after-hours library event! Doors open to audience members at 6:00pm. No registration required. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12, 101 Dorchester Street, Sydney will be holding a Christmas Craft Fair on December 9th and 10th. Doors open at 10 a.m. There will be vendors, homemade baked goods, raffles, and a good time. Free admission. All proceeds help to support Branch 12 and their programs and services for veterans and the community.

The Port Morien Legion, Branch 55, will be hosting a “Christmas Social & Market” on Saturday December 9th from 2pm to 4pm. There will be a bake table, a basket draw and ten local vendors. As usual, the kitchen will be open serving tea and coffee, sweets and everyone’s favourite French fries. There is no admission. So come on out, visit with friends, and enjoy some local holiday shopping.

Please join us for a family skate! This Sunday, December 10th at 5pm at the Whitney Pier Arena. Non-perishable food items will be collected at the door, being donated to the Sydney food bank. We are looking forward kicking of the holiday season while supporting our community.
