The 12th Cape Breton Fiddlers Run was won by a first time marathoner, and ironically a fiddler.
Jeff Ratushney, a Sydney native who now lives in Bridgewater; was first across the line for the men. He told the Cape Breton Post that he was running in his first ever marathon just trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Winning was icing on the cake.
Dr. Kate MacInnis, who recently moved to Mabou from Pictou County; was the first woman across and is thought to be the first fiddler to ever place first in the Fiddlers Run.
