Merchant Navy Day

Nova Scotia is taking a step to honour the Merchant mariners of past wars. Premier Stephen McNeil is announcing that today, September 3rd, will be Merchant Navy Day. The day will honour the two thousand one hundred and 99 Canadian merchant seamen and 91 Canadian vessels lost in enemy action. The Merchant Navy played a critical role in the First and Second World Wars by crewing the cargo ships which transported troops and supplies to Europe.
