DFO won’t list Atlantic bluefin tuna as at-risk
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans won’t list Atlantic bluefin tuna as a species at risk, but will continue to manage it. The western population is at 55% of 1970s levels, and the fish was assessed as endangered by Canadian scientists in 2011. The Ecology Action Centre has called out the five-year wait for a decision, with essentially no measures taken to recover the species in the interim.
