A police report says a man who died from a drug overdose in the Cape Breton Correctional facility told a jail nurse he had taken five “nerve pill” and appeared intoxicated. That has raised questions by an addictions expert as to why he wasn’t taken to hospital instead of a cell.
The Canadian Press has obtained a report showing the prison nurse who assessed Jason Marcel LeBlanc told a guard that he found the prisoner appeared to be intoxicated by something and had slurred speech and was lethargic. He was returned to his cell and another check later showed his vital signs had improved and the nurse said he didn’t have any concerns at that time.
LeBlanc died from a drug overdose involving methadone and bromezapan which he swallowed in his cell.
