949 The Wave community Pledge for the Month of June is the the Mary Royals Fundraising Group, a local chapter of the ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
In Canada, June is recognized as ALS Awareness Month. It’s a chance to learn more about ALS, support those affected, and contribute to the fight against this debilitating disease.
In Canada, the incidence of ALS is between 2 and 3 cases per 100,000 people each year.
While acknowledging that ALS is a life-limiting disease (most people live an average of 2 – 5 years with the disease and lose their ability to walk, talk, and breathe on their own), the ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia approaches ALS with a life-affirming belief.
We encourage families to have defiant hope and to focus on making plans and taking the steps necessary to create lasting memories.
The ALS Society supports people living with ALS by loaning them expensive medical equipment free of charge.
We do this with the help of amazing volunteers in Cape Breton. Board members Jayden Green, the Mary RoyALS Fundraising Group, and Walk Strong Coordinators Nancy and Darrell Porier and Bridget MacQuarrie who are hosting ALS Walk Strong Events in New Waterford (June 7th) and Inverness (June 28th).
