Special weather statement for Cape Breton
A low pressure system approaching from New England will spread rain from west to east across mainland Nova Scotia beginning this morning and reaching Cape Breton Island by tonight. Rainfall amounts of 25-35 millimetres are expected, but could reach or exceed 50 millimetres locally. The areas of highest risk are along the Atlantic Coasts of Mainland Nova Scotia, and Cape Breton. Rainfall warnings may be required today.
In addition, strong southeasterly winds gusting to 80 kilometres per hours are expected along much of the Atlantic coast of mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island; beginning this afternoon in the west and moving east to Cape Breton tonight. These winds may reach or exceed 90 kilometres per hour, in which case wind warnings will be needed.
