Membertou rejoices

Membertou is celebrating the appointment of one of its members to the Senate.  Daniel Christmas is the first Mi’kmaq to be appointed to the upper chamber.

Daniel Christmas is one of nine new, non-partisan senators appointed yesterday by Justin Trudeau; five of whom are from Atlantic Canada.

A longtime friend describes Christmas as instrumental in transforming his home of Membertou from an impoverished First Nation to a thriving community of 14-hundred with its own schools, daycares; convention centre, and ice rink.
