CBRM rain totals

The 225 millimetres of rain set a new one day rainfall record shattering the old one of 128.8mm set in August of 1981.

Mayor Cecil Clarke says thousands of homes have flooded basements and damage will be in the millions.

CBRM has already applied for disaster assistance.

He says the most important thing is that there was no loss of life.

Premier Stephen McNeil will be touring the region today to see the damage first hand.
