Trying to keep that New Year resolution going? Well keep this in mind…

Just in case you’re one of those weirdos who still hasn’t broken your New Year’s resolutions, here’s how long your need to hang in there until your changes become second nature — 21 days – maybe. That number comes from popular 1960 book called “Psycho-Cybernetics” by Maxwell Maltz, a plastic surgeon who noticed his patients seemed to take about 21 days to get used to their new faces. But according to a 2009 study, the times it takes to form a new habit (such as eating healthy, or NOT smoking) isn’t quite that clear-cut. Researchers at University College London found that, on average, it takes 66 days for a new habit to stick, and individual times varied from 18 to a whopping 254 days. Bottom line? To develop a new behavior, it’ll probably take 2 months, and don’t despair if it takes even longer.
