This Weekend on Casey Kasem’s Top 40 Countdown
Saturday’s 80’s Countdown: JULY 19, 1980
8 am – noon
It wasn’t until July of 1980 that O Canada officially became our country’s national anthem. Billy Joel’s Glass Houses album topped the charts in North America. The album featured his hit single It’s Still Rock & Roll to Me. On the radio in July of 1980, Gary Numan and The Rolling Stones were on Casey’s Top 40 countdown.
Sunday’s 70’s Countdown: JULY 21, 1979
8 am – 11 am
In July of 1979, the Walkman was introduced to the world. It was the first popular portable cassette player. As disco music was everywhere, there was a Disco Elimination Night at a ballpark in Chicago. Fans went wild destroying their disco records and cassettes and caused Chicago to have to forfeit the second game of their doubleheader against Detroit. Meanwhile, Casey Kasem was playing Chic and Earth Wind & Fire in his Top 40 countdown this week in the summer of 1979.
