Kids hate vegetables! Well, there is a scientific reason for that!

The kids are gonna LOVE this: A ready-made excuse not to eat their veggies. Apparently, there is a scientific reason that children dislike broccoli and cauliflower…and Brussels sprouts and other greens. According to a research team, it all comes down to the organisms in their saliva. They found that bacteria in the mouth can mix with certain enzymes in these vegetables — producing an unpleasant and sulfurous odour. The team from Australia’s national science agency discovered that children with higher levels of these volatile compounds in their saliva cause them to dislike broccoli, cauliflower, and other Brassica vegetables. And ironically, parents should actually blame themselves if their kids don’t like broccoli. The levels of this odour-producing compound vary from adult to adult, but parents and their children typically have very similar microbiome makeups in their saliva.
